With spring comes the return of many of our favorite bird species, including Stratford’s Piping Plovers! As early as March, they return to Connecticut beaches to kick off their nesting and breeding season.
Migration is a long, difficult journey for these very tiny birds, some of whom travel from as far south as the Caribbean! To make sure they’re able to get the rest and foraging time they need for a successful nesting season, we ask that beachgoers:
- Give Piping Plovers and other returning shorebirds plenty of space
- Abide by signage and regulations around dogs on beaches
- Follow ethical bird photography guidelines
