Saturday, April 22nd, Stratford Rotary Shredding Event from 9 a.m. to noon in the Baldwin Center Parking Lot.

Saturday, April 22nd, 12 p.m. Stratford High School.  There will be a special screening of the documentary movie “Children at the Crossroads of Change” followed by a panel discussion.  Doors open at 11:30 a.m. at Stratford High School.  Defining US shares the stories of Black and Brown students who are directly impacted by the race debate and provides an up close and personal look at the commitment of educators who fight daily for the right of all students to know their history, celebrate their heritage, and access the opportunities they need to achieve and succeed.  Watch the inspiring stories of students. Listen to the credible voices of educators. Learn how to navigate the pressing, vital issues that define our humanity and our lives. Resources that improve our attitudes and behaviors. A network that connects families, schools, and communities.  Admission is FREE. Saturday April 22nd from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sterling House annual PJ Cocktail Party. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support youth and families of Sterling House’s Resource Connection program; including the weekend Food-4-Kids, Food Pantry, and Senior Food Delivery.  There will be an opportunity to win raffle prizes and the event will be catered by Fortuna Catering.  This will be a true party with a purpose. Monday, April 24th from 6:30-8 p.m.  Stratford Library will offer an opportunity to learn about the 40+ wineries in the state with “Connecticut Wineries with the Nutmeg Nose” The program is free and open to the public.  Wine guide Michelle Griffis, an enthusiast of Connecticut’s wineries and nicknamed by friends as “The Nutmeg Nose”, will discuss the array of fantastic, award-winning wineries in the state.  Presentation is free and in the Library’s Lovell Room.  Registration is required at: https://stratfordlibrary.libcal.com/event/9983903

Tuesday, April 25th, Diabetes Prevention; Birdseye Municipal Complex, from 11a.m. – 12 p.m. Join the Stratford Health Department and the Hispanic Health Council for a free 4-week session on Nutrition Health.  The Session will be on Diabetes Prevention.  To register or for more information contact:  Walter Owusu, [email protected]

The Stratford Library Board is still requesting donations for its annual book sale.  Contributors are urged to recycle their good books to share with others and help the Stratford Library increase their book purchase fund at the same time.  Donations of good hard cover books and paperbacks, fiction or non-fiction as well as sound and video recordings, can be brought to the library.   A special book collection bin is on site in the Main Lobby.  The book sale workers encourage residents to donate their biographies, cookbooks, poetry, plays, travel, mystery, science fiction, children’s books, etc.  Premium condition books and children’s materials are especially appreciated this year.  No magazines, Readers Digest condensed books or text books.  Donations will be accepted through May 21st.

Saturday, April 29th beginning at 6:30 p.m.  The eighteenth annual gala event, entitled “Get On Your Feet and Dance!”, will offer “Avenue Groove”, a six piece R&B/Funk band with a professional salsa dance instructor to guide participants on the dance floor.  “Get on Your Feet and Dance” is an evening of music, dancing, appetizers, dinner and fine beverages.  Guests are encouraged to wear a Panama hat for an entry to win a prize.  A silent online and in-person auction and a 50/50 raffle table will also be included in the festivities. Those unable to attend the benefit may support the Library by going online to make their auction bids:  This year’s event will be held at Vazzano’s Four Seasons. 337 Kenyon Street in Stratford and all proceeds will benefit the Library’s collections and programs.  Tickets for the event are $80/person and include dinner and entertainment. There are discounts of up to $100 off for a table of 10 people. Thursday, May 4th at the Downtown Cabaret, Bridgeport.  Presenting the multi-Tony Award winning Broadway show CABARET.

May 20th the Goody Bassett Ball fundraiser for the Stratford Historical Society.  Tickets available beginning March 15th.  Ball will be on Saturday, May 20th, from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at Vazzano’s Four Seasons.  $80 per person or $750 per table of ten.

Sunday, May 21st, Stratford Sister Cities Chorus sponsoring Shall We Dance at the Baldwin Center beginning at 2 p.m.  Celebrating dance in song.  For more information go to: [email protected]  Tickets are available for $10.
