Stratford’s Christmas tree collection will begin Monday, January 8th and end February 9th.  Only live Christmas trees will be picked up. Residents are reminded to remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and ornaments. Please do not put trees in plastic bags for pickup. Residents are advised to put the tree in the planting strip where it can be seen and picked up easily.  The Parks division will split up into teams to canvas neighborhoods for pick up.

The Stratford Library, 2203 Main Street in Stratford, will be closed on Sunday, January 14 and Monday, January 15, 2024, in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. The library will reopen on Tuesday, January 16th at 10 a.m. Current Library hours are: Monday-Thursday: 10-8, Friday-Saturday: 10-5, and Sunday: 1-5 p.m. For further Library information, call 203.385.4161 or visit its website at: www.stratfordlibrary.org.

Wednesday, January 17th, Baldwin Center at 11:15 a.m. THE STRATFORD PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM IS IN NEED OF VOLUNTEER TUTORS & MENTORS. There will be an Informational session on January 17th at the Baldwin Center presented by Stratford Volunteer Corps. David Chess & Mike Suntag (a former educator and co-owner of Breakthrough Education Strategies LLC) will describe how we can make a difference in children’s lives by volunteering in public school classrooms. Learn How You Can Help! Saturday, January 27th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Stratford Library Reference Department and its Knit Wits program present it’s first-ever Yarn Swap. Crafters are invited to bring their unwanted yarn to the event. Tables will be available to set-up and display yarns, and crafters can also bring knitting accessories (books, needles, project bags), which need to be in good and clean condition. Attendees are also encouraged to stay and knit. Saturday, February 10th at 6 p.m. “Boogie At The Brewery”, A Funky Fundraising Party on SUPERBOWL WEEKEND sponsored by Sterling House Community Center. Dress in your best football themed outfit! Enjoy local food, beers, wine, and cocktails from Two Roads Brewing and Arena Rock from The Band Central! Featuring covers of Journey, Led Zeppelin, Doobie Brothers, Stevie Wonder, Grand Funk, The Clash, Peter Frampton, Guns And Roses, Rolling Stones, and more! All of this, and you will be making an impact on your community! Proceeds go to SHCC’s equitable programming.
