Saturday, May 6th at 2 p.m. the Stratford Library will present “An Afternoon of Short Original Plays in Recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month” in the Lovell Room at the Stratford Library.  The staged readings of seven original plays and monologues focus on various aspects of mental health and well-being such as depression, anxiety and grief.  The program is free and open to the public. “Resilience,” a collection of original plays focusing on overcoming personal struggles will be available for purchase at the event. Proceeds from its sale go directly to Sterling House Community Center in Stratford.

Sunday, May 7th, Shakespeare Market, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shakespeare Park.

Sunday, May 7th, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Connecticut Air National Guard Centennial Celebration.  Connecticut Air & Space Center in Stratford.

Tuesday, May 9th, from 7:30-9:30 a.m. the 18th annual Celebrity Breakfast sponsored by Sterling House Community Center.  Trumbull Marriott on Hawley Lane.  This year featured celebs are basketball legends: Jen Rizzotti, Tricia Fabbri, James Jones, and JR Fredette.  Tickets ($75) still available.  Bring a non-perishable for the food pantry for World Hunger Day and get a basketball related commutative souvenir.

Tuesday, May 9th Lace up those sneakers to take a walk and enjoy the fresh air, beautiful water views, and vintage cottages and homes.  Parents Place, Stratford YMCA, Stratford Health Department, and The Baldwin Center invite moms and caregivers of infants to join us for a 5-week walking series every Tuesday during the month of May.  Each week we will be at a different location to give local residents an opportunity to explore the Town of Stratford. Come with your child in a stroller or backpack and walk with some of our community healthcare professionals to learn about health topics relating to your infants. All questions are welcomed!

The Stratford Library Board is still requesting donations for its annual book sale.  Contributors are urged to recycle their good books to share with others and help the Stratford Library increase their book purchase fund at the same time.  Donations of good hard cover books and paperbacks, fiction or non-fiction as well as sound and video recordings, can be brought to the library.   A special book collection bin is on site in the Main Lobby.  The book sale workers encourage residents to donate their biographies, cookbooks, poetry, plays, travel, mystery, science fiction, children’s books, etc.  Premium condition books and children’s materials are especially appreciated this year.  No magazines, Readers Digest condensed books or text books.  Donations will be accepted through May 21st.

Save The Date Stratford Events:

May 20th the Goody Bassett Ball fundraiser for the Stratford Historical Society.  Join the Stratford Historical Society for a night of purely un-puritanical fun!  This fundraising bash will help the Stratford Historical Society support and expand programs, collections, and exhibits and help to maintain the Captain David Judson House for future generations of the Stratford Community.  Tickets available.  Ball will be on Saturday, May 20th, from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at Vazzano’s Four Seasons.  $80 per person or $750 per table of ten.

Saturday, May 20th, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport,

275 Huntington Road, Stratford, the Connecticut based duo, Violet Willows, will be performing.  The performance begins at 7:00 .p.m.  For tickets go to http://eventbrite.com/e/violet-willows-in-concert-tickets-621819828847 .  Tickets will also be sold at the door for $15.00.

 

Sunday, May 21st, Stratford Sister Cities Chorus sponsoring Shall We Dance at the Baldwin Center beginning at 2 p.m.  Celebrating dance in song.  For more information go to: stratfordSChorus@gmail.com  Tickets are available for $10.

10th Annual Veterans Breakfast will be on Wednesday, May 24th At Vazzano’s Four Seasons, 337 Kenyon Street.  Doors open at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast at 11 a.m.  Veterans and their guests will receive a full traditional breakfast.  Registration Deadline: Friday, May 12th.  Questions: Call the Mayor’s Office at (203) 385-4029 or Event Contact: Karin Doyle, Constituent Services Coordinator, email  kdoyle@townofstratford.com.
