Super Bowl Deep Dive

by Xavier Cromwell-McDowell

The Kansas City Chiefs are your 2024 Super Bowl Champions and the first team since the 2004 and 2005 New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls. Let’s take a deep dive into the game, the Chiefs had 2 turnovers which the 49ers could not capitalize off of at all. The Chiefs also forced two turnovers as well as a blocked extra point which was the momentum swing of the game, with the 49ers only scoring six points after and the Chiefs scoring 12 points to win the game.

Patrick Mahomes

Is Patrick Mahomes entering the GOAT discussion with his third championship in six full years and going back to back?  The last QB to do that Tom Brady himself. Not only that he have 3 NFL Player of the Year awards going back to back in 2019 and 2018 as well as an AP Offensive Player of the Year in 2019. Not only that, he has thrown for at least 4,000 yards every year he’s played at least 8 games.

Brock Purdy

He played a good game in the first half the second half he collapsed after starting the game 10 for 15, he only had 13 more completions the rest of the game while also throwing 18 more passes. So overall it was a good game he went 23 for 38 but you can tell he wasn’t the same player in the second half compared to the first half. You might say well he completed 60 percent of his passes.  Was it his fault?  Yes and no, they had a huge interception in the third quarter and got nothing out of it they have to be able to capitalize on great field position. Did he throw an interception?  No it was his cleanest game of the postseason but he played like a game manager and you can’t do that against Patrick Mahomes, you gotta do more than just kill the clock and only score two touchdowns. Although he had a decent postseason he is still a Pro Bowl-caliber QB and will most likely take the 49ers back to the Super Bowl.

49ers Defense

The defense played a well-rounded game They lost their other game-changer in Javon Greenlaw with a torn Achilles which is horrible for them. For them, though they held the Chiefs to under 30 points forced two turnovers, as well as holding Patrick Mahomes to 333 yards and an interception. As well is only allowing 5 yards per play which isn’t great but against Patrick Mahomes that’s about as best of performance you really can have and in the first half he looked super uncomfortable. They know they can beat them they just have to go out and do it now it was an overall good game though.

Will the Chiefs have a dynasty and win their third Super Bowl in a row or will Brock Purdy be able to win his first Super Bowl next season?
