Top Issue: Getting Response from State Government

A resident who lives on State Rt. 110 in Stratford asked attendees at the May 15 Community Conversations how to get help from the State when she has an issue with the roadway or right-of-way that affects her property. She is requesting that a guardrail be re-installed in front of her home as protection from motor vehicles that occasionally leave the road. She said that the Town has referred her to the State, since it is a State road, and she has been dissatisfied with the State’s response.

She was advised at the Conversations meeting, which was held at Stratford Library, to contact either State Rep. Laura Dancho or State Senator Kevin Kelly. There was a discussion about whether the State responds more earnestly to individual citizens, a group of citizens who sign a petition, or to the elected state legislators who lobby on behalf of the citizens.

Contamination Cleanup

On the topic of contamination cleanup, the resident who asked where he could learn more about the cleanup work along upper Ferry Boulevard was advised to visit the federal EPA office on Ferry Blvd where Rotary Ski Shop was located for many years.

Other Topics

Other topics of discussion raised by the community members included how to get more information from the Town about their plan to provide garbage containers with lids to residents, elevating Shore Road so it would be less prone to flooding, and having Stratford Police install red light cameras as a tool to catch drivers who do not stop at red lights.

Final ConversationJune 5

The next, and final, Stratford Community Conversations will be on Wednesday, June 5 at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 275 Huntington Avenue, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. as usual. Bring a topic to discuss. We will have extra chairs available.
