Stratford Crier’s mission is to inform and update Stratford residents on various categories of interest, community events, pertinent information, and/or input into specific tasks or project. We would like to highlight the work, dedication and projects of our elected officials, beginning with town council members. Stratford Crier is posing the following questions to each of these elected officials to find out more about what inspires them in this position and what they hope to accomplish in their term.
Sixth District Councilman Ken Poisson
I’m Ken Poisson, and I am the town councilman for the Sixth District. I have lived in Stratford my whole life and I enjoy trying to make our town a better place on a daily basis. I have been elected four times (2011, 2013, 2017, 2019) and hope to continue for two more years. I may not be perfect (no one is, right?), but I must be doing something right!
What do you see as the needs of your district at the present?
My constituents have asked me to stop raising taxes. We have accomplished this for four straight years — without cutting services! The other things that I am contacted the most about are trees, sidewalks and paving. Those lists are very long throughout town. I wish we could go back in time, and not plant tall trees under the utility wires!
What is your vision for the town?
My vision is that we continue to be a great place to live, work and play for people of all backgrounds and ages. People are moving to Stratford in droves. Property values are increasing. We have a quality education system and recreation department. There are ample parks and fields and beaches where people can recreate or just relax. We need to not get complacent, to not just maintain what we have, but to think outside the box for what else we can do to make Stratford even better.
What is your vision for your district’s future?
Same as above (minus the beaches!).
What is your vision of collaboration between administration and residents in making Stratford a great community? How do you see town residents’ role and participation in making Stratford a great community?
Vote. Volunteer. Attend meetings. Get involved. Do not just sit on the sidelines and complain. If anyone has a thought (bad or good) or a suggestion on anything that can make our town better, please reach out to town hall. It takes effort on everyone’s part to make things better.
