The Stratford Library will host an informational webinar, “An Optimistic Approach to Job Seeking”   presented by Constance Hallinan Lagan, on Tuesday, April 13 from 6:30-7:30 pm. The program, presented on the Library’s Zoom format, is free and open to the public.

Constance Hallinan Lagan, director of The Entrepreneurial Center for Small Business Development, lectures nationwide on the job search, career advancement, entrepreneurship and personal growth for corporations, government agencies, professional associations, labor unions and many more. Her byline appears in more than sixty publications, including Woman’s Circle, Entrepreneur, In Business, Income Opportunities, Chamber of Commerce Pacesetter, Profitable Merchandising, Successful Meetings and Professional Speaker.  She brings information and insight, humor and hope, to her audiences every time she speaks.

Optimistic people are more likely to present themselves effectively on their resume and during job interviews than those who exude negativity and lack enthusiasm and passion. Optimistic people are also more likely to lands jobs for which they are well suited and which are personally fulfilling and to be promoted and receive fair compensation for their advancement than others. Entrenched as we are in the pandemic and all its devastating effects on our emotional stability, mental acuity and physical limitations, it is now even a greater challenge than ever to remain optimistic. Those jobseekers who work on attitude and perspective will present themselves as hopeful and confident.

Although genetics and early childhood environment do play a role in whether optimism comes easily, optimistic thinking and behavior can be learned. The Library webinar opens the window on optimistic thinking for those who have yet to experience the joy of a life lived positively and encourages those who are already actively attempting to “stamp out” negativity to continue their quest. The webinar is divided into two segments: lecture/question-and-answer period. The topics covered include defining optimism and pessimism, understanding cognitive theory and reflecting optimism in one’s job search.

“An Optimistic Approach for Job Seeking” will begin at 6:30 pm on April 13 on the Zoom platform.  To register online and receive a Zoom invitation for the April 13th program visit: https://stratfordlibrary.libcal.com/event/7534105.  For further information call the library 203.385-4162.
