State Senator Kevin Kelly R 21st District

Senator Kevin Kelly has earned the endorsement of the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut (UPFFA) for his candidacy for reelection to continue serving the 21st Senate District, including Monroe, Seymour, Shelton, and Stratford.

“I have so much gratitude and respect for the men and women who serve as firefighters – heroes who help our families during our greatest times of need,” said Kevin Kelly. “It is an honor to earn the endorsement of those who serve our state and its people every day. It has been a privilege to advocate for legislation that helps those who help us all, from providing better mental health support to helping firefighters whose health has been harmed in the line of duty. I will always advocate for those who risk their lives to save others.”

Kevin Kelly cosponsored Special Act 21-35 An Act Establishing a Task Force to Study Cancer Relief Benefits for Firefighters to support firefighters diagnosed with cancer acquired from occupational exposure to noxious fumes or poisonous gases. He also passed legislation to provide workers compensation for firefighters suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (Public Act 19-17).

“Thank you for your support of professional fire fighter issues including issues of importance to the fire service at large,” said Peter S. Carozza Jr., President of the Uniformed Professional FireFighters of CT.

Regionally and nationally, the UPFFA has fought for firefighter rights. From PTSD awareness to cancer prevention, the organization and its members work to protect those who protect all citizens.

The UPFFA of CT endeavors to raise the standards of all who are gainfully employed in the act of protection, prevention or extinguishment of fire, delivery of emergency medical services or response to hazardous materials incidents.

Senator Kevin Kelly is also endorsed by: the Retired Teachers of Connecticut, the Connecticut State Building Trades Council, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 478, the Connecticut Realtors, the Connecticut State Police Union, the Connecticut State Fraternal Order of Police, the Connecticut chapter of the National Federation of Independent Businesses, and has been recognized by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association for a 100 percent pro-jobs voting record on key bills identified as critical to the state’s job creators, workforce, affordability, and overall economic growth.

Senator Kelly, a lifelong resident of Stratford, currently serves as the Senate Minority Leader in the state Senate and works as an elder law attorney as the owner of Kevin Kelly & Associates, PC, a Stratford law firm. Prior to working in private practice, Kevin Kelly worked as an investigator for the Department of Social Services for over 13 years. He is Director Emeritus of the Southwest Connecticut Agency on Aging. He and his spouse Cindy live in Stratford and have four children and seven grandchildren.
