Michael Suntag, a member of the Stratford Rotary Club, was an honoree at the Norman K. Parsells Fellowship Luncheon on April 5th at the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield.

Rotarians receiving this award have been recognized as one who personifies the spirit and dedication to their community as Norman Parsells represented throughout his lifetime.

Suntag exemplifies the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”. Before his retirement, his career spanned nearly 50 years in public education as a teacher, administrator, State Department of Education Consultant, and co-founder of Breakthrough Education strategies.

He currently is Chair of C.A.R.E. (Citizens Addressing Racial Equity), member of the Board of Stratford Partnership for Youth and Families, member of the Stratford Board of Education’s five-year planning committee and Plant Planning Committee, on the editorial board of the online news source Stratford Crier, and co-developer of Stratford Volunteer Corps. He is a Child and Family Fellow with the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

As a Stratford Rotarian Mike has served as Secretary of the club for four years and participated in many of the service projects and programs the club has developed. He chairs the Vocational-Technical Scholarship Committee, which awards annual scholarships to high school seniors interested in trade careers, and used the District Managed Grants to fund many community service projects from supporting veterans to feeding homeless families.
