Historical Society Ready to Celebrate with Birthday Bash

Sunday, July 30th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
On the Lawn and in the Museum

What does every 300-year-old want? A party! Come celebrate Judson House’s 300th birthday! Play games, eat ice cream from Micalizzi’s cart, and watch a puppet show by Nappy’s Puppets. Bring a chair or a blanket. Enjoy the summer fun with your family!

There will be something for all ages.  The Ice cream social celebrating Judson House 300th anniversary will feature ice cream and ices from Micalizzi’s.  There will be lawn games, performances by Nappy’s Puppets, tours of the Judson House, Party favors (pencils, wooden top, dried apples), and more.

Jim Napolitano, a.k.a. “Uncle Nappy,” is a Connecticut native and one of America’s most-loved shadow puppeteers. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut’s Puppet Arts program, and has taught puppetry to students of all ages throughout New England. For over 20 years Nappy’s Puppets has toured nationally to theatres, festivals, libraries, and museums, delighting audiences of all ages with quality shadow theatre productions.

Shadow puppetry, is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment which uses flat articulated cut-out figures which are held between a source of light and a translucent screen or scrim. The cut-out shapes of the puppets sometimes include translucent color or other types of detailing.  Various effects can be achieved by moving both the puppets and the light source. A talented puppeteer can make the figures appear to walk, dance, fight, nod and laugh.
