Sterling House Community Center adds Premier Soccer Training

Sterling House Community Center is adding Sterling Advanced Futbol Club (SAFC), a premier competitive program. This club will provide an advanced level of training and competition to grow and strengthen the game of soccer in Stratford and the greater Bridgeport region.

The club will develop and inspire young soccer players of all ages and backgrounds to bring their best to the game in all aspects; fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship, and game IQ. SAFC upholds the spirit of Sterling House and a dedication to positive youth and community development.

Tryouts

All players interested in joining the Sterling Advanced Futbol Club MUST attend at least one of the upcoming tryouts. Players will be assessed on foot skills, passing, on-field character, and Game IQ. Players will run through a series of drills and scrimmage play.

Registration is required for tryouts, no initial payment is needed.

Sterling Advanced Futbol Club (SAFC) will be coached and managed by:
Johnny Argueta, Co-Founder & Director of Player Development. Johnny Argueta was born in Bridgeport, and began his competitive soccer career at the age of 10. By the age of 14, he developed his skills and began playing at the Academy level with South Central Premier, who was ranked 15th in the nation at the time. After graduating from Kolbe Cathedral High School, Johnny played Semi-Professional competing regionally and nationally. Johnny has a decade of premier coaching experience and is the Varsity Head Coach for Notre Dame High School of Fairfield, where in his second year of coaching, he led his team to the State Semi-Finals.

George Longwa is Co-Founder & Coaching Director. George Longwa was born in Congo DR, Africa, and played for the pro club, Kalulushi Modern Stars (Junior Academy) from 1996-1999. At the age of 14, George moved to the United States, making Bridgeport his home. Upon graduating from Harding High School, George took his leadership skills and knowledge of the game to begin coaching and developing some of the top elite players in Fairfield County.

During his coaching career, George played on a Semi-Professional team where he competed regionally and nationally. George has developed players who have gone to play DI, DII, and DIII with full scholarships. He also trained players at the Academy and Professional levels, such as NYCFC, NY Redbulls, NE Revolution, the US National Team, and a player on the Women’s National Team of Peru.
