State Representative Joe Gresko (D), who serves the 121st District in Stratford, was named by Connecticut House Speaker Matthew Ritter (D – Hartford) to serve as a Deputy Speaker beginning in 2025. Gresko has served as the House Chair of the Environment Committee for three years and will be on hand to guide the committee’s leadership transition.
“Joe Gresko is a proven leader who has given so much to the state as our chair of the Environment Committee,” said Speaker Ritter. “As a Deputy Speaker, Joe will help develop and steward this year’s House Democrats’ environmental bill, which we expect to be HB 5004.”
HB 5004 is an act concerning the implementation of certain climate change measures. Designed to implement certain measures relating to climate change including advancing and implementing the state’s goals for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the phasing out of the use of natural gas, investment in renewable energy and green economy startup businesses, incentivizing sustainable purchasing by local governments and the enhancement of nature-based solutions to mitigate climate change.
HB 5004 was introduced by the Environment Committee
When the Speaker of the House is absent from the chamber, Gresko as the Deputy Speaker would preside over the House of Representatives.
