ALPHA: Alonah

Share

Alpha has been very supportive of me.

My name is Alonah and I want to express why I feel like Alpha should not be shut down.

I transferred in from Platt Tech. I left behind my twin sister, which was devastating for me. I was scared and worried. I didn’t even want to go to school. This is where I learned that I suffer from anxiety. I haven’t a clue what that was. I was in and out of the hospital because I would pass out from panic attacks. I didn’t eat. I would go to school and walk in the hallways when it was time to pass in the hall between classes; I would go to my classes. My mom spoke to the guidance counselor, nurse, my doctor even had the security guards helping me cope, but that wasn’t enough. I was being picked up from school 3 to 4 times a week because I couldn’t make it through the day. Once my doctor diagnosed me, I was introduced to the Alpha Program. After a few meetings I was accepted. My grades went from F’s and D’s to A’s and B’s. Alpha has been very supportive of me. I went from the point that I continuously told my mom that I was going to drop out of school to me telling my mom about my projects and what I learned in school and how helpful and compassionate the staff are at Alpha. If this program is stripped from me I feel like the walls are once again closing in on me. I honestly don’t want to go backwards. I only have one year left and I was looking forward to graduating within this program.
