Stratford Volunteer Corps (SVC), a part of 501(C)3 Non-profit Stratford Forward, was launched in September, 2023. The goal was to connect our great talented retirees and others with time to give, with our Schoolteachers to support our children’s growth and development.
In this short time, we have succeeded in a big way. We now have over forty volunteers signed up to give time. We have over fifteen classroom needs posted for Stratford Academy and Franklin School. We have placed over eight volunteers, and we are rapidly expanding.
This coming week we will roll out volunteer services to Nichols School and Second Hill Lane. We work directly with the principals at the schools, our mentors and tutors all have a background check done (at no cost to the volunteer), and we are putting together a mentorship tutorial and support group.
Our community has truly come together to support our teachers and students.
We hope to roll out to all the elementary schools by the end of February.
Additionally, we also support other agencies in finding volunteers. South End Community Center is looking for volunteers for a Tax Preparation Assistance Program.
To learn more, join us at the Stratford Library Lowell Room on Sunday, January 28th, at 2 P.M. Lifelong educator Mike Suntag and I will update you on our schools, how they have evolved, and what we can do to support them.
Please sign up to give the greatest gifts of all— your heart and your time.
