Getting Ready For the Big Celebration

Hello Stratford Organizations and Friends!

Stratford’s America 250 Celebration Committee would like to share a unique opportunity to get involved, be acknowledged, and CELEBRATE!

Two Lights for Tomorrow is a nationwide initiative to kick-off the celebration the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding with the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. In particular, Two Lights for Tomorrow commemorates Paul Revere’s legendary ride, which took place overnight on April 18-19, 1775, with imagery serving as a uniting call-to-action for citizens to celebrate and serve.

The Town of Stratford will commemorate this momentous occasion — with a focus on Stratford’s unique role — in a few ways.

We invite all Stratford-centric organizations and residents to come together in celebration:

·         Monday, April 7th – Witness first-hand the live reading of a portion of Longfellow’s famous poem, Paul Revere’s Ride, narrated by popular Stratford Town Historian David Wright — complete in period attire — and discover Stratford’s role in the spreading the word! At the start of the Town Hall meeting being held at the Baldwin Center at 7:00 P.M.

·         Friday, April 18th – Join other organizations and individuals throughout our Town, state, and country by illuminating two lights outside your building or home during the evening.

·         Friday, April 18th – Friday, May 2nd – Come together For the Common Good. Plan or participate in a community service project any time between Friday, April 18th (the illumination of Two Lights) and the Housatonic River Cleanup on May 2nd. (These can be projects you already have planned!)

Get recognized for participation!

The statewide American 250|CT Commission invites all participating organizations to use this information to publicize your service projects and to create a map of participants.

We look forward to learning and celebrating together with you.
