Three year project: sign up now to help!!!

Volunteers Needed

The LIA (Lordship Improvement Association) is thrilled to announce a long-range Lordship Bluffs Restoration Project, focusing on managing invasive species, planting native trees and shrubs, enhancing pollinator habitats, mitigating weather-related damage and reestablishing our wildlife corridor.

The project follows a period of excessive growth of trees, shrubs and invasive species on the Bluffs, which necessitated a cut-back last summer from the Bluffs ridge to the central trail.

While we’re starting the project this spring, it will span over 3+ years with ongoing maintenance – and we need your help every step of the way!

We are extremely fortunate to be working with esteemed leadership from the Connecticut Audubon Society, the Connecticut Land Conservation Council (CLCC), environmental consultants, and both state and local leadership. It’s incredibly exciting to collaborate with so many passionate individuals who care about the critical 9.7-acre habitat here in Lordship that has been entrusted to us for protection and care.

In order to kick this project off, we are applying for a Climate Smart Planning Grant through the Connecticut Land Conservation Council (CLCC) and have already conducted the site visit with CLCC leadership and local conservationist who will provide the restoration plan.

As we prepare to implement the formal Bluffs Restoration Project Plan, we will begin several key initiatives in early spring. To kick things off, we’ll host volunteer workgroups twice a month that will align with the town’s Project Greensweep on Saturday, May 3rd. Following that first Saturday in May, plan to join us on the first and third Saturdays of every month from 10 am to noon.

To help you decide which project you’d like to be part of, we will publish a Bluffs Restoration Calendar outlining the specific projects for the Spring, Summer and Fall. Work crews will be needed by sections that will coordinate by the streets that lead to the bluffs (Lordship Road, Victoria Lawn, Margherita Lawn, Maple/Ivy Streets and Laurel Street).

We’d appreciate your help with the project – or anything of interest to you.

You can volunteer now by writing to LordshipIA@gmail.com. Please specify your interest, such as Restoration Project, Garden Team, Environmental/Education, Communications-Website/Annual Calendar, etc.

Stay tuned for more updates. And thank you in advance for your support and involvement in this important initiative!
