Stratford has been my home for over 40 years. Barbara and I chose to raise our five children here because Stratford has incredible resources, in both its location and its extraordinary people – true treasures.
I am a physician and was called to the profession. I wanted to make a difference for people, that was and is my calling. Since then, I have cared for thousands of people and have built at least a dozen health care companies.
I have tried to lead with integrity. As your doctor, I listened, cared and showed up. As a business person, I treated my employees with respect and thoughtfulness, and always made sure they had medical coverage.
I am running for Mayor because we need to restore integrity to town hall. Eliminate nepotism and favoritism. Create real standards for hiring and firing. We need to make our council meetings interactive. Each project, each department, each office will have key performance indicators, so we know where our tax dollars are going.
We need to bring integrity to business development. No back door deals, true public input, create a business innovation center and start-up grants. Make the Army engine site a destination with boardwalk, hotel, restaurants, theater and housing. The deed restriction could be amended to include residential use by doing additional, investor-funded remediation.
We need to restore the integrity of our schools. Having worked with Heather Borges, our acting superintendent, I know that she wants Stratford to be a great place for learning. We need to support our teachers as the professionals they are, we need to restore special programing like Magnet schools, we need to engage the community, and we need to be smart and innovate.
Smart land development starts with creating a comprehensive land use map which highlights all available property, including properties that are not in use, underused, abandoned or underperforming. From this map we create our own development plan, and engage developers on our terms.
This is just the beginning, but it all starts and ends with integrity.
