Cash for Trash–State Grants Awarded to Stratford

Share

State Representative Joe Gresko (D), 121st Connecticut House District

State Representative Kaitlyn Shake (D), 120th Connecticut House District

Dear Neighbor,

I am pleased to share the Town of Stratford is receiving approximately $545,000 in state grants to reduce our municipal waste disposal costs and protect our environment. The funds, which I strongly advocated for, will help our community develop waste management infrastructure to help divert valuable recyclable and compostable material from disposal.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) allocated an unprecedented $15 million across the state for this sustainable initiative as part of the Material Management Infrastructure Grant Program.

The funding will go toward increasing:

  • Recycling
  • Food scrap diversion and processing equipment
  • Composting and anaerobic digestion facilities
  • Infrastructure for managing hard-to-recycle materials

As former chair of the Environment Committee, it’s gratifying DEEP acknowledged Stratford as a partner in solving Connecticut’s waste crisis. I thank the agency for its leadership and commitment to finding sustainable solutions for greener and more responsible waste management system across Connecticut.

As always, if I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact my office at (860) 240-8585 or email me directly.

  1. I have lots of trash and can use another trash receptacle as they cost 75.00 to purchase. Ive been on disability since 2013 from a highway accident on i-95. I was only able to practice my RN,BSN degree for 3 years prior to a disabling accident. Now I need a second trash receptacle but they costs 75.00 Dollars to purchase. I live at 1053 Cutspring Road in a house my parents owned before they died. I’d really appreciate it if at all possible. If you need to contact me, my number is 203-673-3786. It hurts my back and neck when all my trash is dumped into 1 receptacle and with 2 to divide the trash, it would be less straining getting 1 heavey trash been out to the curb from my garage. If you have any questions, I can provide information from social security that i am disabled.
    Thank you-

  2. I just need an extra Trash bin. I’m disabled with a neck and back injury. Having 2 trash bins will help me to move the trash with less weight as I live alone with my cats. Litter, cans, and debris pile up causing pain to my back and neck when all of my trash goes into 1 trash bin. I’d appreciate the help. Ty.
