Stratford Municipal Elections 2025
Dr. David Chess is the new mayor-elect of Stratford. He won with 1,300 more votes over Mayor Hoydick, in part due to early voting.
Chess, a Stratford resident for over 40 years, chose to build his family in Stratford. On his campaign website he states, “Trust is the foundation of good government. Stratford residents deserve to know how their money is spent, and how decisions are made.” This is a sentiment he repeated in his acceptance speech after being named the winner.

“We will put Stratford back on the map. We will build it from the bottom up, not from the top down.” Chess is confident that the foundation will be that much stronger with the community hard at work. He goes on to say, “We now have a town council that can’t be beat!”
Local restaurant Joey C’s provided space, food, and beverage, acting as Chess’s election night headquarters with community members, Democratic candidates, longtime supporters of Chess, and even a few high school students, who, Chess says,“are the stars of this campaign.”
Once Kathleen Callahan, Chair of Stratford Democrats, made the announcement that Dr. David Chess would be our next mayor, Ewald Joseph, Zoning Commissioner for District 2, ran and embraced his friend. I spoke with Ewald just after his hug, and when asked why David was the choice for Stratford, he said, “We decided that this time it is going to be our time.”

Very excited! Great things to come in this for this incredible town I love.
