High Electric Rates

120th Connecticut House District
Committees: Environment; Finance, Revenue & Bonding; Transportation

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It’s no secret: utility costs are on the rise. That’s why I joined my House and Senate Republican colleagues recently to combat these high costs and fight for affordability across our state.

Why is this Happening?

Decisions made by the statehave a significant impact on your monthly bill, such as roughly four years of moratoriums on service shutoffs (citing COVID-19), which socialized the cost of unpaid bills to all ratepayers. It’s why we insisted upon a provision that requires your electric bill to indicate the amount of your monthly cost that is attributable to these “public benefits” decisions.    That’s why we offered proposals to deliver short and long-term relief, including redefining Class I renewable energy sources to include all forms of hydropower and all nuclear power, and studying ways to get more natural gas into New England to reduce our reliance on more expensive fuel-mix used to generate electricity.

Share your voice! Right now, my colleagues and I are calling on the Governor and Majority Leadership to call for a Special Legislative Session and consider our proposals to address these rising electricity costs. If you’re also tired of these high costs, contact the elected officials below and demand we call for a Special Legislative Session now: Governor Ned Lamont (860-566-4840); Speaker of the House, Matt Ritter (860-240-8585); Senate Pro-Tempore, Martin Looney (860-240-0375)

On Tuesday, August 20th at 7:00PM, I will be hosting a Small & Minority-Owned Business Benefits Forum at Stratford’s Baldwin Center (1000 W Broad St, Stratford, CT) to discuss important resources with the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services to support local businesses. Topics covered will include set-aside program benefits, eligibility requirements, certification steps, and critical growth and marketing strategies for all types of businesses. All businesses in the Stratford-Bridgeport area are invited. Following my successful “Spotlight Stratford” series which highlighted various small and minority-owned businesses, several owners suggested hosting an event to highlight the many state benefits to support the businesses that support us every day. That’s why I am excited to bring together local businesses, present resources through the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services, and foster a long-term support system to bolster our local economy. For additional information or to RSVP for this event, please email [email protected].

Don’t Forget: My work in Hartford addresses a wide variety of topics that matter to YOU. As always, please never hesitate to reach out to me with your questions, ideas, and concerns so that I can continue making your voice heard!
