Subject: Important Update: Redistricting Plan Approval and Next Steps Dear Stratford Families and Community Members,
After a year of thoughtful discussion and collaboration, we are pleased to share that the Stratford Board of Education has approved Scenario 1 for redistricting, effective for the 2025-2026 school year. This decision was guided by our commitment to ensuring balanced enrollment, equitable opportunities, and compliance with state guidelines across our schools.
We recognize the significance of this change and remain dedicated to supporting all families as we transition to the new attendance zones. Below are the details of the approved plan and next steps for those directly impacted.
Plan Highlights:
1. High School Students (Grades 9-11):
- Current students may choose to stay at their high school until graduation.
- Siblings of these students must follow the redistricted pathway.
2. Current 5th Grade Students:
- They may remain at their current elementary school for 6th grade (a one-time exception).
- All students must transition to the redistricted pathway for middle school.
3. Lordship Flex Zone:
- Students in this zone will follow the Flood/BHS pathway.
4. Chapel Satellite Zone:
- Families may request a waiver by August 15, 2025, to attend Franklin Elementary.
- Waiver approvals will be based on space availability and conducted via a lottery system.
Next Steps for Families:
Families in the amended areas will hear directly from their building principals in January 2025 with specific instructions regarding these changes.
For High School Families in Grades 9-11:
- If your student wishes to remain at their current high school, you must submit a request to your building principal by February 7, 2025.
For Current 5th Grade Families:
- If your student wishes to remain at their current elementary school for 6th grade, you must submit a request to your building principal by February 7, 2025.
Please watch for communication from your school principal with further details and steps to complete these requests.
Transition Support:
We want to make this transition as smooth as possible for all families. Schools will organize Step-Up Days and other welcoming events like Popsicle Pop ins to help families and students connect with their new school communities. These events are designed to familiarize students with their new environments and build positive relationships with staff and peers.
Gratitude and Commitment:
This redistricting effort has been a year-long journey that required the hard work and commitment of many individuals, including members of the Plant and Planning Committee and our broader Stratford community. We are deeply grateful for your input and collaboration throughout this process.
We understand that change can be challenging, and we are here to support you every step of the way. If you have questions or need additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact your school principal or our Central Office team.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to ensure the success and well-being of all Stratford students.
