Every Monday and Wednesday, The Lord’s Kitchen invites all to come to Christ Episcopal Church, located at 2000 Main Street, for a meal cooked and served by Stratford churches and non-profits from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
In 2011, the Stratford Clergy Association headed by Paul Kurmay, decided to serve people experiencing food insecurity and homelessness. The association created The Lord’s Kitchen, which enables the Stratford church community to have a direct hand in feeding our neighbors in need.
Recently, the Stratford Rotary Club sponsored and volunteered two meals in December in partnership with The Lord’s Kitchen.

Believing that everyone deserves a hot meal, on Wednesday, December 17th, the club served over 100 meals of: lemon chicken, Haricots Verts (green beans) with carrots, roasted potatoes with rosemary and thyme, and Christmas cookies. The meal was also supported by a local bakery, Icing on the Cake, which donated an assortment of breads. Guests were encouraged to ask for “to go” dinners once everyone had been served a sit-down meal. The chef for the event was Town Councilman Phil Young.
Christmas carols were sung by students from Stratford High School and Bunnell High School, members of the Interact Club, a youth-led service organization sponsored by the Stratford Rotary Club.
The Rotary’s “Service Above Self” motto is achieved through hands-on action and community building. These clubs are self-governing, host projects such as fundraisers and food drives, and foster personal growth, global awareness, and strong friendships.
On Monday, December 22nd, the Stratford Rotary Club hosted a Christmas Dinner for guests. Baked ham, roasted potatoes, buttered vegetables, and of course, Christmas cookies. The chef for the day was Stratford Rotary President, Dominic Mantuano.
The following are those members of the community who stepped up to the plate (pun intended) every year to cook and serve at the Lord’s Kitchen. They also contributed gift cards in the amount of $25 to be distributed to those who attended the Christmas Dinner: St. Mark Church, St. James Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, St. Joseph of Stratford National Catholic Church, Holy Name of Jesus, Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Christ Episcopal Church, Mercy Tabernacle Church, Davena’s, Stratford United Methodist Church, and the Stratford Rotary Club.
All are welcome to come for friendship and a good meal at Christ Episcopal Church, located at 2000 Main Street, not too far from the Stratford Public Library.
