“I am delighted that Stratford’s 300-year-old Captain David Judson House continues to inspire a new generation of artists. Their vibrant and imaginative artwork brings fresh energy to our museum galleries, creating a dynamic connection between the past and the present.” – Stephanie Kadam, Executive Director of the Stratford Historical Society.

“Our students at the Little Red School are so dedicated to their art,” said Carolyn West, founder and director of the school for more than 30 years. “We allow them to have complete artistic freedom in our classes, and they amaze us with talent. Near the end of our summer camp, we focused our attention on the beauty and historic value of the Judson house. Each student represented their view of this city’s treasure, and we can’t wait to show their results at the museum.”

Built in 1723 by Captain David Judson on the site of his great-grandfather’s 1639 stone house, the Captain David Judson House is a prime example of Georgian architecture, featuring an elegant broken scroll pediment entry. Now a museum, this historic landmark is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is furnished with Stratford-origin artifacts that immerse visitors in the town’s rich history.

West and her staff have been teaching children of all ages art and music since 1991 at its location at 2979 Main Street. The idyllic building in which The Little Red School of Art and Music resides represents the homey community feel of the school as a whole. For two decades, founder Carolyn West has worked hard to maintain that atmosphere, allowing kids to express themselves in music and art classes, which range from private guitar lessons to small-group painting and cartooning classes.
