The Connecticut Age Well Collaborative (CAWC) recently designated the Stratford Library as one of 50 places and programs in the state that “demonstrate age, dementia, and disability inclusivity.” The designation reflects how well the library caters to people suffering from cognitive decline.
The Connecticut Age Well Collaborative is a statewide, cross-sector part of Connecticut’s livable community’s initiative, which created a list of community-nominated places and programs that demonstrate exceptional inclusivity. In October CAWC will be highlighting the Library’s work, and encouraging Connecticut residents to visit as they tour the many ways to “Age Well Across Connecticut”.
The Stratford Library is currently a Connecticut Library for Accessible Books (CT LAB) hub library. It helps people get free books and magazines in audio and braille formats. This is available for any Connecticut resident who is unable to read regular print due to a visual, reading, or physical disability.
“We are honored to be part of the Connecticut Age Well Collaborative”, said Library Director Sheri Szymanski, “and will continue to support our patrons and all the residents of Stratford.”
