Topics:
The 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant is a state grant to Support After-School Programs. In Stratford this program has about forty participants at each high school. Acting Supt. Borges said funding was received for the middle school program but not renewed for the high schools. She said the funding has grown more competitive and is approximately $200,000.
Three students spoke to their disappointment, and to the importance of the program in their lives. (Apologies for names not being clearly understood.) The board appreciated the students’ words and while making no promises, said they will do what they can to try to regain the grant.
The Stratford Community Fund has been dissolved. Bill O’Brien delivered checks for $1000 for continuing education scholarships and $500 for Unified Sports. Additional contributions were given the high schools for Post Prom and scholarships.
The Career and Technical Education program is doing very well, with wait lists. The state has decided to direct more funding to districts not doing as well, which reduces our funding.
State BOE Update Kristen Record, a member of the State BOE, distributed their legislative package to Stratford BOE members and staff. She highlighted several of the bills being submitted.
Search Committee The Board voted to hire the Connecticut Association of Boards of
Education and its consultant Mary Broderick to help with the search for a Superintendent for the Stratford School System.
