Executive Session #2:

The purpose of this Executive Session was to discuss the status of pending litigation – “Kenneth Pugh vs. Town of Stratford BOE”.  In the session were all attending Board members, Attorney Thomas Cotter, Ronald Ing (Human Resources Director – Town of Stratford) and Acting Superintendent Heather Borges.

School Policies were reviewed and voted on favorably for:

  • Policy: Resident/ Non-Resident students (Tabled at the 6.24.2024 BOE Mtg.)
  • Policy:  Administering Medications #5141.21 (Policy Review)
  • Policy: Attendance
  • Discussion: Registration – Vaccinations Requirement
  • Update:  Discipline Policy #5114 (new legislation)

Alliance Grant 2024-25 (for approval by Board of Education) Mrs. Borges shared that the document is the exact template from the State of Connecticut, and that most of the funds have been previously discussed during the budget process for FY 2024-2025. She noted the grant application is due to the State of Connecticut before the next Board Meeting in August.

The BOE voted to approve a request from Acting Superintendent Heather Borges to hire a temporary part-time administrator to handle some of her responsibilities. Borges, the district’s director of pupil services, has been serving double duty since she was appointed interim schools chief late last year after Osunde was placed on paid administrative leave. Borges told the board. “I would love to say that I can emotionally and physically manage both jobs for as long as you need me to. But I really can’t.” She said the new administrator will be tasked with taking over some of her special education-related obligations, including performing evaluations for the district’s nearly two dozen speech and language pathologists. Borges said the yet-to-be-hired official will likely work between 20 to 25 hours a week and will be paid around $500 a day. She said the person will probably be hired from a pool of local retired administrators who are certified in special education.

The seven-member board voted unanimously to allow Borges to hire the administrator for the remainder of her time as acting superintendent.
