What does it mean to vape? What does a vape look like? Who can buy them? How do they work? The Stratford Police Department will host an informational presentation and answer these very questions. In partnership with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, the Narcotics Unit asks the Stratford community to join for their presentation, and welcomes all questions.
According to data from the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, in 2021, eighteen people in Stratford who were 18 years old or older died of drug overdoses. While the Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that in 2024, over 1.5 million middle and high school students reported that they used e-cigarettes, also known as vapes.
Vapes contain nicotine and/or THC. With many drugs easily accessible on the black market, like fentanyl, a drug like fentanyl can be found in a vape as well. Whatever the mixture, it is clear how deadly vapes can be. The loss of any life, especially one that is preventable, is cause for concern.
You are invited to join the Stratford Police Department on Wednesday, December 10th at 6:30 p.m. at 900 Longbrook Avenue in Stratford. As it states on the flyer from the SPD: This is a COMMUNITY event… REMEMBER, WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!To attend, please RSVP to JCreatore@townofstratford.com.
