Dear Reader,
The holidays are upon us, and all that we have to look forward to and to be grateful for may vary. For some, there is excitement in the anticipation of Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Christmas. But for some of our neighbors, finding a home, a roof to put over their heads is their priority this season.
In Stratford, with a population of over 52,436 people, 45% of all households in the Greater Bridgeport area are living in poverty, or Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE). Homelessness does exist in Stratford, and does impact individuals and families of all ages, including children and seniors. This week, in an article written by local community member and advocate, Jocelyn Ault, you will get to learn more about our neighbors who are unhoused.
You may want to take a look at Luz’s article this week as she explores what the word “holy” means for those who identify as religious, and those who do not.
If you’re looking to support the community, you can set up a mini-market, like Lileana (more to come about her outreach to those in need in our next issue). Until then, take some time to enjoy a play put on by the Stratford High School Drama Society of Leading Ladies, and perhaps ask yourself how you can lead right here in Stratford. There are many opportunities, and we’re happy to help you find them!
We wish you a thoughtful and productive week.
