The Stratford Animal Rescue Society is issuing an urgent public appeal after an exceptionally devastating week marked by multiple cases of extreme animal abandonment during dangerously cold weather. In just one week, the organization responded to several heartbreaking cases:
Tiny Tim, a senior dog with only three legs, impaired vision, and significant trauma, was dumped on a remote road in 19-degree temperatures. Unable to run, unable to see well, and unable to survive on his own, he was left defenseless in the cold.
Hubie, a young kitten, was discovered abandoned inside a locked storage unit with no access to water, crying for help that might never have come if someone had not intervened.
Matilda, a cat seeking safety, was left outside a closed veterinary hospital in 17-degree weather—abandoned at the door of a place meant for healing, with no one inside to help. “These are not isolated incidents,” said representatives from Stratford Animal Rescue Society. “The most overwhelming part is that the animals keep coming. There is no pause, no relief, and no end in sight. They arrive frightened, injured, and confused, carrying the consequences of human decisions they never deserved.”
The shelter is currently stretched to its limits—emotionally, physically, and financially. Despite exhaustion, staff and volunteers continue to provide care, warmth, medical treatment, and safety to every animal that comes through their doors. “We will keep showing up for them,” the organization emphasized. “But we cannot do this alone.”
