Hello Neighbor,

With July just around the corner, it’s hard to believe that Pride Month is coming to a close. We’ve celebrated so much, from the Greater Bridgeport Pride Festival (celebrated on June 21st) to the Milford Pride Festival (happening on June 28th) to our own Pride Month Flag Raising earlier this month. There is both a sense of understanding and acknowledgement when allies come together in community to honor marginalized communities. There is a kind of freedom attached to this acknowledgement, freedom to open our hearts and minds to those so often deemed the “other.”

On June 19th, we recognized the plight and freedoms of enslaved people, and communities, including ours, honored Juneteenth with a flag raising. On June 18th, 2025, the Juneteenth Flag was raised by Jermaine Atkinson, our Fire Chief, and Alvin O’Neal and Anthony Afriyie, two members of our Town Council. In 2021, President Biden made Juneteenth a federally recognized holiday, giving a message that our freedoms are hard won, and never too late to be celebrated.

I hope you check out a few great articles in this issue, like Three Queer Publishers to Support This Pride Month (and Beyond) by Adrian Frandle, and Stratford: The Stories We Tell by David Wright, our Town Historian.

Thank you for reading, neighbor.
