State Senator Kevin Kelly Judicial Nomination

Share

Reported By Connecticut Capitol Report

Multiple sources have told Capitol Report’s Tip Sheet that they expect Stratford State Senator Kevin Kelly, the Stratford senator who was ousted by his caucus after three years as minority leader, will be included in an upcoming slate of judicial nominations.

Those sources do not expect Kelly to take the oath of office next week.

According to the Secretary of State, on January 8, 2025, elected state senators and representatives will be sworn in at the Capitol in Hartford, and the 2025 Regular Session of the Connecticut General Assembly will begin.

The governor’s office has communicated with senior legislative leaders about the prospect of nominating Kelly, according to sources familiar with those conversations.

In addition to his legislative service, Kelly is a respected attorney with his own law practice in Stratford.

In the event Kelly declines to take the oath of office next week, his senate seat would be vacated and a special election would be triggered.  Once Governor Lamont swears him in as judge, an election would then be scheduled for the first Tuesday after 45 days pass, March 4th
