Over the last few years I’ve learned quite a bit about government, both federal and local. What I believe wholeheartedly is that taking on a leadership role, whether it be president or mayor, is like being the parent to a child. Whether you birth it or not, it’s all about trial and error, while being responsible for your choice (whether as president, mayor, or parent).
The next Budget Workshop – Session 2 meeting is scheduled for 5:30 PM this Tuesday, March 31st, and is open to the entire Stratford community. For the last meeting, which took place on March 23, 2026, you can find the meeting notes on the Town of Stratford’s website.
On May 11th, there is an opportunity to voice your thoughts at the Town Council meeting. The mill rate is slated to be set on May 12th. You can review the mayor’s proposed budget and watch the recording of the first session of the Budget Workshop from last week.
What can you do now to get involved in the budget process?
You can sign up for Mayor Chess’s newsletter updates, attend a Town Council meeting, get to know and speak with your district’s council person, review the budget process/decisions/expenditures in neighboring towns/cities like Milford, Shelton, and Bridgeport.
Mayor Chess said in his newsletter this week, “As you’ve heard me mention before, since the Town’s last revaluation in 2019, residential property values have increased by an average of 80%. Unfortunately, towns are required by State law to undergo a revaluation process every five years. While the revaluation is out of our control, there are things we can do within our control. That’s why my colleagues and I on the Town Council are prepared to review every option to help reduce the burden on homeowners.” In addition to the aforementioned, he shared the dates of upcoming meetings at Town Hall, which I’ve listed below for you.
