Stratford Library Kids Events in July

Summer Storytimes

Enjoy early literacy activities and meet other families at Library Storytimes! The Stratford Library Children’s Department offers summer storytimes for children. Storytimes meet at 10:30 am. Throughout July on Mondays, Music Time meets weekly for ages 0-2. Tuesdays are Preschool Storytimes for ages 3-5. Storytimes run through July 29. On Thursdays, June 26, July 24, and August 14, Baby Lapsit meets for ages 0-18 months. Storytimes meet in the Children’s Program Room. Registration is required. Children’s Craft Table

The Stratford Library Children’s Department offers weekly summer crafts with teen volunteers in the Library throughout July. The craft table will be open Monday-Thursday, 10am-12pm and 2pm-6:30 pm as well as Fridays from 10am-12pm, volunteer availability permitting. Summer Art: Floral Arranging

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a Summer Art program on Tuesday, July 1 at 4pm for ages 7-12. Create a red, white, and blue floral arrangement to bring home. Sport Stacking

Join the Stratford Library on Wednesday, July 2 at 11:00am to learn how to up-stack and down-stack specially designed cups (called Speed Stacks) and compete in relays and other fitness challenges led by Instructor Glen Costello. The program meets in the Lovell Room. Ages 6 to 12 are welcome to attend. Courtesy of the Vicki Soto Memorial Fund. Registration is required. Young Reader’s Book Club: Saving Winslow

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a young reader’s book club for grades 2-5. This summer’s book will be Saving Winslow. Pickups for the books will begin on Thursday, July 3 and the discussion will take place on August 7 at 6pm in the Children’s Dept. program room. Registration is required. Preschool Playtime: Sunny Days

The Stratford Library Children’s Department will be offering preschool STEAM activities on Thursday, July 3 at 4:00pm for children ages 3-6. Activities will be about “sunny days.” Preschool Playtime will meet in the Children’s Program Room. Registration is required. Book Scientists 

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer Book Scientist kits for children ages 5-12.  Each kit includes books and activities. Books are selected based on the age of the child participating. This month the themes will be Red, White, And Blue (July 5) and Games (July 18). Kits can be picked up for two weeks after the kit release date. Pretzel Tasting

Join the Children’s Dept. for this fun, food competition for all ages on Monday, July 7 from 4pm-5:30pm while supplies last. Decide which pretzels are the tastiest in this silly competition, where you get to be the judge! Results will be posted on our social media platforms. Vote while supplies last. Please note that food allergens will be present during this event. No registration required. LEGO Derby

The Stratford Library will offer a LEGO Derby Car Race on Tuesday, July 8 at 4:00pm for ages 5-9. Children will be provided LEGOS to build a race car with wheels then race them to see which car is fastest down the ramp. Each family only needs to register once. Christine’s Critters Animal Show

On Wednesday, July 9 at 2:00pm, the Stratford Library Children’s Department will host a live animal experience for all ages. Learn some fascinating facts about birds of prey including owls, hawks, and falcons along with a few reptile friends. Live animals will be present. Perler Beads: Fandoms

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a Perler Beads program on Thursday, July 10 at 4:00pm for ages 7-12. Craft a Perler Beads creation celebrating your favorite fandom to take home with you. Supplies are provided. Registration is required. Alphabet Parade Grab ‘n’ Go

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. is offering Alphabet Parade grab ‘n go craft kits on Friday, July 11 (Letter “C”) and July 25 (Letter “D”) for children ages 18 months to 5 years old. Language Café: French

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a Language Café program on Friday, July 11 at 3:00pm in the Children’s Program Room. Kids ages 6-12 will learn some beginner’s French while playing some Number & Color games, along with a snack. No prior French skills needed. Registration is required. The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a class on how to play the board game Backgammon for ages 8-12 on Monday July 14 at 11:30am. Grownups are welcome to accompany their children. Learn the basics of this classic board game, and put your skills to the test. Program will be held in the Children’s Program Room. Registration is required. Piano with Friends

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer Piano with Friends: Music Basics class on Tuesday, July 15 at 4:00 pm for children ages 7-12. Learn about music notes and how to find keys on a music keyboard, then try a few songs (class does not replace professional piano lessons). Alphabet Fun

Join the Stratford Library Children’s Department on Wednesday, July 16 at 11:00am for some Alphabet Fun. Children ages 3-5 are welcome to participate. Play some fun games and activities while practicing the letters of the alphabet. This program will meet in the Children’s Program Room. Registration is required. Japanese Folktales and Origami

On Wednesday, July 16 at 4:00pm the Stratford Library Children’s Department will offer a Japanese Folktales and Origami program. Children and teens ages 5 and up are welcome to attend. Join our special guest Mokoto as you discover the art of origami while listening to some folktales. Learn step-by-step how to do this ancient Japanese art form. The program is sponsored by the Vicki Soto Memorial Fund. This program will meet in the Lovell Room. Registration is required. Kindness Club

On Thursday, July 17 at 4 pm, the Stratford Library Children’s Department will have a meeting of the Kindness Club. This summer’s efforts will include projects with a community benefit. Kids Podcasting Club

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a Podcasting Club for children ages 7-13 with a parent/guardian. This club will meet on Friday, July 18 at 3:00pm in the Children’s Program Room. Librarians and uCreate volunteers will help children record stories, book recommendations, insights and more! Registration is required. Saturday Storytime: Fireflies

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a special Saturday Storytime for ages 3-6 on Saturday, July 19 at 10:30 am. Listen to some stories and learn a few songs and rhymes about fireflies with a fun craft to follow! Storytime will be in the Children’s Program Room. Registration is required. Beaded Bracelets

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a Beaded Bracelet program on Saturday, July 19 at 2:30pm for ages 7 to adult. Make a bracelet using stretchy string or some wire and a clasp. Summer Art: Tiny Art

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will offer a Summer Art program on Tuesday, July 22, or Tuesday, July 29 at 6pm for ages 7-12. Please sign up for only one session. Paint a tiny art canvas and have it displayed in the Children’s Dept. on a bulletin board. All artwork may be picked up the week of August 19-22. Program will be held in the Children’s Program Room. Christmas in July

Come celebrate the holidays early with some festive yule tide activities including a craft, games, treats, and other Christmas fun in the Children’s Program Room. Holiday attire is welcome! Kids Lightsaber Training

The Stratford Library Children’s Dept. will host a Kids Lightsaber Training Program with Jedi Masters of Kessel Temple Saber Guild on Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 am. Children ages 5-12 are welcome to attend. Learn the ways of the Force and how to wield a Lightsaber. Costumes are welcome and Program will be held in the Lovell Room. Kids Karate

Join local Karate Instructor Sam Diaz to learn some basic Karate moves for beginners. No experience is necessary. Registration is required. Crocheting
