Better Health with Bridgeport Hospital Physicians
As our population ages, Emergency Departments must evolve to meet the unique needs of older adults. Bridgeport Hospital, including our Milford Campus, is proud to be recognized as a Level 2 Accredited Geriatric Emergency Department. This achievement reflects our deep commitment to providing high-quality, age-sensitive care to older adults in our community.
At the heart of this effort is our Geriatric Emergency Medical Service (GEMS), a dedicated team of advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who specialize in the care of older patients. These providers screen, treat, and guide patients through their emergency visit, working closely with physicians and care teams to ensure safe transitions and thoughtful, personalized care. GEMS is available seven days a week and plays a vital role in improving outcomes and supporting families during what can be a challenging time.
Bridgeport Hospital is proud to be part of a health system that prioritizes geriatric care. Several hospitals across Yale New Haven Health have earned Geriatric Emergency Department accreditation, demonstrating a shared commitment to enhancing emergency care for older adults. While Bridgeport holds Level 2 status, other hospitals in our system have achieved Level 3 accreditation, and together we are advancing the standard of care for seniors throughout Connecticut and beyond.
This system-wide focus reflects our values of compassion, excellence, and responsibility to our aging population. At Bridgeport Hospital, we are honored to lead in this space and remain dedicated to delivering exceptional care to every patient, with a special focus on the unique needs of older adults.
Whether you’re seeking emergency care for yourself or a loved one, you can trust that Bridgeport Hospital is prepared to deliver thoughtful, expert care every day.
