All in a week’s work, the Democratic Town Committee held its kick-off party on Thursday, July 24th, and the Republican Town Committee endorsed their full slate of nominees on Tuesday, July 22nd. The full list of endorsed candidates can be found at the bottom of this article for both the Democratic and Republican parties.
Last Tuesday, the Stratford Republican Town Committee endorsed Mayor Laura Hoydick, providing her with the support of an 80-member committee, opening up the possibility that she will serve as the mayor of Stratford for the next four years, making it, if elected, her third term as mayor.
As reported by the CT Post, in his speech nominating Mayor Hoydick, Christopher Silhavey,a member of both the Zoning Board of Appeals and Republican Town Committee, said, “I can assert without a reservation that Laura has the skill set, the temperament, the experience, the firm understanding, the respect and the wisdom to move Stratford forward to growing prosperity.”
As it stands today, our two mayoral candidates are David Chess (D) and Laura Hoydick (R), though in a bit of a cliffhanger, as reported by the CT Post, Linda Manos is working to “force a primary to decide the party nomination. If Manos collects the required petitions, a primary would be held on September 9.” Currently, the Stratford Democratic Committee has 77 members.
Linda Manos, who has held a position on the Zoning Commission for over 10 years, was a hopeful candidate for the Democratic endorsement, however during the Democratic Town Committee meeting held on July 17th, the DTC endorsed David Chess, doctor and businessman, as the 2025 Democratic Town Committee candidate.
Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz addressed the Democratic Town Committee Kick-Off Party with a reminder for those in the audience. She said, “You don’t have to leave your community to make a change.”
While the heatwave this summer just may be over, this election season is already heating up, and it is for sure to be one you should follow (and get out to vote in). The Race is on and may the “Honest” team prevail. This is where the rubber meets the road.
Every resident will have an opportunity to be heard, new ideas abound with Chess. Do I see “honesty” in Stratford’s future for the first time in decades? They do say “Honesty” is the best policy. Lets ALL take that to the voting booth in November. Lets institute this mans 100 Day Makeover.
