Shake Receives Ella T. Grasso Women’s Leadership Award: A Celebration of Empowerment and Democratic Excellence!
Kaitlyn Shake was recently honored as one of the two distinguished leaders in the 3rd Congressional District by the Connecticut Democratic Party. The prestigious Ella T. Grasso Women’s Leadership Award, bestowed annually, recognizes extraordinary women who have made significant strides in promoting Democratic values and leadership across the state. Named in honor of the trailblazing Ella T. Grasso, the first woman elected governor of Connecticut, this award honors women who have made significant contributions to advancing Democratic values and leadership within the state.
Kaitlyn Shake has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to supporting a wide range of candidates at the local, state, and federal levels. Her involvement includes volunteering for numerous campaigns across Connecticut, offering vital support to candidates who represent the values and priorities of the Democratic Party. She has been instrumental in backing key Democratic initiatives like paid family medical leave, public education, raising the minimum wage, expanding healthcare access, women’s rights, expanding mental health, immigrant rights, racial justice, gun violence prevention and policies that support working families. As one of the state organizers for the Connecticut Women’s March and a founding member of Fairfield Standing United Indivisible, Kaitlyn has played a key role in mobilizing grassroots movements across Connecticut.
Inspired by the countless women she has organized and collaborated with over the past two decades, Kaitlyn Shake took a bold step in her commitment to community service by running for public office in 2019. Currently serving as the Democratic Party Leader on the Stratford Town Council, she represents District Seven, having bravely navigated the challenges of political gerrymandering that shifted her from District Two. Undeterred by obstacles, Kaitlyn shattered expectations in 2023, securing a stunning landslide victory against a Republican incumbent to claim her third term.
Beyond the Council Chambers, Kaitlyn is a dedicated women’s health nurse and a proud member of the AFSCME Unit 23 Union, embodying the spirit of service in every aspect of her life. Kaitlyn is running for the 120th District State Representative seat and is working tirelessly toward victory in the November 5th election. With her unwavering determination and passion, Kaitlyn Shake is poised to make an even greater impact on her community.
