Alliance District Teacher Loan Subsidy Program (ADTLS)

State Representative Joe Gresko, (D)
121st Connecticut House District

Dear Neighbor,

A teaching staff that mirrors the diversity of the student body it serves provides the best educational outcomes for our kids.

That is why I am pleased to share details on the Alliance District Teacher Loan Subsidy Program (ADTLS) that aims to increase recruitment of a diverse teaching staff in the alliance schools by allowing the refinancing of student loans at a lower interest rate.

To help address the significant need across the state to recruit and retain educators in Alliance Districts, the Connecticut Higher Education Supplemental Loan Authority (CHESLA) and the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) have partnered to launch a new initiative — The Alliance District Teacher Loan Subsidy (ADTLS) Program.

This program offers an interest rate subsidy on Alliance District Teacher Refinance Loans (to refinance existing private student loan debt, also known as non-federal loans) to teachers in any of Connecticut’s Alliance District public schools. The program is designed to attract, support, and retain high quality educators who reflect the racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of Connecticut students.

I am looking forward to the savings in the ADTLS having a positive effect on increasing recruitment and retention in our state’s most vulnerable schools and encourage you to share this information for best possible reach.
