(Yes! In December!)
Saturday, December 14th at 12:00 Noon

You would think that December gardening is over, wouldn’t you? However, here in our garden at the Stratford Historical Society (SHS), it is not. There are still some things to do, and more importantly, planning for the upcoming year. That is why I am asking all our active members and those of you who have expressed an interest in our garden to attend our last club meeting of the year this Saturday, December 14th, at 12:00 noon. Coming up this year, we will need all the hands we can get, starting with our winter sowing workshop in January.

The meeting will discuss activities in the upcoming year, but the immediate need is for planting bulbs, some of which are for the SHS garden, and some for the local Girl Scout troop. Following the meeting will be a hands-on bulb planting 101 session! Learn different ways to plant bulbs, and help plant for the garden’s first springtime color.

The SHS Garden Club continues its outreach with the Girl Scouts. Earlier this year they assisted them with installing a pollinator garden at Sterling House, which is now proudly part of the Pollinator Pathway. The Town of Stratford Beautification Commission noted their efforts and donated 100 daffodil bulbs (our town flower) for them to install at Sterling House as well. The Girl Scouts have been invited to the meeting and will be planting more bulbs at Sterling House either Saturday or Sunday.

We have the bulbs and have invited the scouts to our meeting. Depending on their availability, we plan to help them on either Saturday or Sunday. We will have many hands with the girls doing the actual planting, so 100 bulbs will take no time at all!

Watching the weather, the upcoming weekend does not look too bad. The forecast says mid-40s and partly cloudy. With the warmer 50s on Wednesday and the rain, the ground will be ready—not frozen solid anyway—for quick planting. But Rain or shine, cold or not, we have to meet and collaborate! If you are unable to help plant, that is fine! No worries, just come to meet and chat with your fellow gardeners.

We know it’s the holidays, and time is precious, but we would certainly appreciate it if you can break away for just an hour or so. Please let us know if you are coming by registering with the link below.
