Watercolor Painting

WHO:   Ages 16 and up. Skill level: beginner and intermediate.

WHEN: Five Saturday sessions, 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., September 30th – October 28th

COST: $140.00 members – $160.00 non-members

Instructor: Donna Osterby-Brien

Topics covered will be:

  • Basic watercolor paint application
  • Brushwork techniques; students will create swatches with their own watercolors
  • Color Theory: Understanding color basics

Learn the important principles of watercolor while working on fun projects based on photo reference you bring to class. The instructor will also have some reference material available for students to use.

Donna Osterby-Brien has had a love affair with watercolor since studying at Parsons School of Design. Osterby-Brien is a member of several local arts associations including Arts Alliance of Stratford, BRAG and Artists Collective of Westport. She has won awards in juried exhibits and has had several solo shows in libraries, museums and other venues in the Tri-State area.

Writers Group

The ongoing group meets the first Wednesday of each month on Zoom, 1:00-2:00 P.M.

Brian Hogan is a Public Speaker as well as a Creativity and Clarity Life Coach specializing in helping artists and creatives from all walks of life find clarity and move past blocks as they discover and honor their own artistic processes. Brian currently serves as an Artist-in-Residence and Adjunct Professor at Sacred Heart University’s Graduate Film & Television Program where he teaches Screenwriting.

Opening Reception for “The Best of Ourselves”

This show is a collaboration of the Arts Alliance of Stratford and the Black Rock Art Guild. Artists were encouraged to share a personal story or journey that reflects their inspiration, and thus shows the connecting strength of these two communities.

Friday, September 22nd, 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Sterling House Community Center

Basic Drawing for Beginners

Ages: 18+
Skill level: absolute beginner

Runs over five Tuesdays, September 26th – October 24th

7:00 – 9:00 PM

Arts Alliance of Stratford members: $140.00
Non-members: $160.00

Drawing is a foundational skill that can help with other creative pursuits, such as painting, sculpture, and design. It’s the basis for any other medium you choose.

Students will learn the important skills of observing, a crucial skill to represent the subjects they draw on paper.

Students will also learn to use lights, darks and mid-tones to give their drawings form.
