Ben McGorty (R)
Candidate for State House District 122
Bio: Ben McGorty
- Why are you running for office?
I have built a career of serving our community and in doing so, have earned the trust of residents and families who want to have their voice heard in Hartford. I recognize that the cost of electricity, groceries, and childcare are stunting family growth. Radical anti-law enforcement legislation has made our communities less safe. Proposals to ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles threaten consumer choice and our energy infrastructure. To tackle our state’s toughest problems facing residents, we need a trusted leader at the State Capitol.
- What are your qualifications for this position?
I have proudly served the 122nd Assembly District since 2014 and built a career of public service as a fire service professional for over 40 years.
- What is your vision for Stratford’s future? Please be as specific as possible.
My vision for Stratford’s future is one that unlocks economic opportunity for all. For young families, that they can grow and afford to buy a house to call Stratford home, without the growing burden of increased costs of family-building essentials. For seniors, that they can afford to retire in their communities with less financial stress and increased support. Stratford’s future is one where its public schools can thrive and its students succeed at the highest level. In Hartford, I have been a fierce advocate for focused funding on local K-12 education, especially vital special education programs. Stratford’s future is one where law enforcement officers can rightfully perform their duties and be proactive in keeping our streets safe.
- What do you believe can be your greatest contribution to Stratford in this new position?
This position, which I have held for 10 years, is one that I can continue with my work as a leading advocate for public safety, affordability, and local education. Stratford residents can continue to trust that I will turn their concerns at home into real action at the State Capitol.
