We’ve been, globally, celebrating teachers since 1994, thanks to the efforts of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), who, according to their website, are tasked with strengthening our shared humanity through the promotion of education, science, culture, and communication.
I invite you to celebrate our teachers, those right here, some who may be your neighbor, in whatever way you can think of to just say – thank you. In honor of World Teachers’ Day, I want to share with you this announcement, and send congratulations to our local educator, Dr. Chandra Maxwell, who sat down with middle-grade author, Derrick Barnes. Derrick is the author of many graphic novels, both middle grade and young adult, and whose book, Victory. Stand! Raising Our Fist for Justice, was a 2022 National Book Award finalist, and whose latest book, The Incredibly Human Henson Blayze, was released late last month. In the weeks ahead, I hope to share more with you about Dr. Chandra Maxwell and her work as both an English Language Arts Teacher Leader and 21st Century Site Director at David Wooster Middle School. Until then, I leave you with her interview with author Derrick Barnes, in the latest episode of The Write Time from the National Writing Project Resource Hub, a resource for teachers, by teachers.
