The days are getting shorter, and the sun is setting a bit earlier, but summer does not officially come to an end until September 22nd. For over 6,500 students, school begins this Thursday, August 27th for 1st-12th graders, and for kindergarten school begins on Friday, August 28th.
The Family and Community Engagement Office hosted their annual Back-to-School event at Stratford High School where they gave out backpacks, school supplies, and more. I hope you spend time reading our Neighborhood Beat reporter Ahilyn’s piece about the event, and her interview with organizer, Migda Carrero, Family Engagement Specialist, who is recognized by Stratford Public Schools “for her passion, dedication, and leadership in advancing family engagement across our district”.
High school students from Stratford, who were featured on NPR’s Consider This, were part of this summer’s mock senate in Boston, Massachusetts to discuss drafting a mock AI bill. Stratford High School student Bena Mejia Romero was featured in the show.
And then there were women from the Stratford Women’s Equal Suffrage Association from 1912, who you can learn more about this week in David Wright’s article.
There is much to consider this week around town, from the Kids’ Day at the Paradise Green Farmers’ Market on Monday, August 24th to Jukebox Bingo at Two Roads Brewing on Thursday, August 27th to the Open House Back-to-School Event at The Little Gym on Saturday, August 29th.
