For over 30 years, the Stratford Rotary Club has donated money and turkeys to the Sterling Community Center for Thanksgiving. This year the Stratford Rotary Club donated $6,000 to purchase turkeys and all the “fixings”. The club purchased 132 turkeys and 100 turkey breasts to deliver to Sterling Community Center (SCC) families.

Last year, Sterling Community Center provided over 300 families with Thanksgiving Dinners. In addition to turkeys, the “fixings” include: Boxed Mashed Potatoes, Boxed Stuffing, Canned Cranberry Sauce, Canned Beets, Gravy Canned Fruit, Canned Vegetables, and Canned Beans. By the Saturday before Thanksgiving, there had been 187 families that had registered for deliveries, and 200 that had registered for pick-up at SCC. Sterling House also delivered prepared dinners to 30 homes in Stratford on Thanksgiving.
The curbside pickup line went from Church Street to in front of Sterling Community Center, where there were two pickup stations that loaded up vehicles in a steady progression from 10 a.m. to well after noon.

Volunteers loaded over 200 turkeys and fixings into vehicles for delivery to SCC families unable to participate in the curbside pickup. Additional turkeys were given out Thanksgiving week to those people who had not registered in time. In a time of food insecurity in Stratford, Sterling Community Center and the Stratford Rotary Club stepped up to help residents celebrate Thanksgiving. A special shout-out to SCC for packing and providing the hundreds of bags of fixings, and the people to keep everything running smoothly.
