As we look ahead to Election Day on November 3rd, tomorrow marks another big day, the Primary Elections. Early voting took place at The Baldwin Center between August 3rd and August 9th. Tomorrow, on Tuesday, August 11th, voting polls will open at 6am and close at 8pm.
Whose on the ballot?
If you’re a registered Democrat, you’ve probably received a call or two, or a texts (or 10) from candidates Governor Ned Lamont and his opponent Josh Elloitt, Connecticut State Representative for District 88.
Elected as Connecticut’s 89th Governor in 2019, Governor Lamont’s agenda today is much different than the one he ran on during his first term. At the forefront of his campaign all those years ago, were hopes to: resolve state budget deficits, invest in transportation, and enact progressive workforce reforms. A mere four months into his first term, the pandemic hit Connecticut, debilitating the state and infecting over 100,000 people statewide. Elliott was elected into office in 2016, and represents Hamden in the General Assembly. According to his website, over the past 10 years Elliott has prioritized issues such as: Paid Family and Medical Leave, Criminal Justice, Affordability, and Legislative Leadership. However, perusing his website leads to a dead-end. While he does list his priorities and bits about issues he took on over the past 10 years, what we do not see are photos of him with many constituents or anyone other than himself.
According to the Independent Voter Project in a 2026 report, there are over 2 million voters in the state of Connecticut. Of those 2 million, over 850,000 are registered Democrats, and over 490,000 are registered Republicans, with 1+ million registered Independent voters. With primaries less than 24 hours away, time will tell who wins, and which current issues (Lamont’s or Elliott’s) will be part of the November election season.
