STRATFORD, CT — August 25, 2026 — The Stratford Animal Rescue Society (STARS) is asking for the community’s support to help provide veterinary care for Wiley, a neglected German Shepherd recently found roaming near Roosevelt Forest in Stratford.
Wiley was found in extremely poor physical condition. He is emaciated, missing one leg, infested with parasites and suffering from extensive hair loss, with large areas of exposed and irritated skin.

Wiley’s condition is unfortunately representative of the increasingly serious medical needs of animals requiring assistance. Many arrive needing immediate veterinary treatment, medications, diagnostic testing, parasite treatment, proper nutrition and continued medical monitoring.
STARS provides financial support for veterinary care and other needs of animals at Stratford Animal Care & Control. Even with veterinary discounts provided to rescue organizations, the cost of treating animals with significant medical needs can quickly reach hundreds or thousands of dollars.

As more animals require assistance, STARS is asking the community to help ensure funds remain available for Wiley and the animals who will come after him.
Donations of any amount can make a difference.
Donations can be made through STARS at:
https://givebutter.com/donate-stars
As a special thank-you, supporters who donate $100 or more through the Givebutter link will receive a STARS supporter T-shirt by mail.
