Stratford Rotary Club Day of Service

Service Above Self and One Profits Most Who Serves Best

That is the motto of the Stratford Rotary Club who last Saturday turned out to plant (at no cost to the Town of Stratford) a red maple tree and 24 field grown pollinator perennials at the Stratford Library, and at Clover Field 2 pin oak trees, 2 maple trees, and 2 dogwoods, all native and field grown.

Members of Stratford high schools Interact Club showed up to help with the “heavy lifting”. Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Interact clubs organize at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. Rotary club sponsors mentor and guide Interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills.  Both Bunnell High School and Stratford High School have Interact Clubs.

The Stratford Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community’s business and professional men and women who have subscribed to honorable and ethical standards in their personal and vocational conduct, and who have a desire to do good things for other people both local and internationally.

The main objective of Rotary is service – in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence.

They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self”.

Weekly meetings are every Tuesday at 12:15 P.M., at Fishbar de Milan restaurant at 2505 Main Street, Stratford. Lunch is available for purchase. All are welcome to join.  For further information you can go to their website http://stratfordrotaryclub.org/

Rotary International has approximately 1.2 million members in more than 166 countries worldwide. They are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and encourage all cultures, races, and creeds to belong.
