Music History Talk/Video Set for 7 p.m. on July 17th

Stratford Library: Air Conditioned Lovell Room!!!

The Stratford Library, will offer a special music history presentation, “The Birth of Rock and Roll: Songs That Defined an Era”, on Monday, July 17th at 7 p.m.  The program is free and open to the public.

This entertaining and enlightening visual program will take music lovers back to one of the greatest musical eras in American history. Rare video presentations of such artists as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis and Bo Diddley will be shown with commentary by author and pop culture historian Marty Gitlin.  Gitlin will discuss the impact these rock and roll pioneers made on society and pop culture.  He will also challenge patrons with trivia questions and interact with a lively Q&A following the event.

Marty Gitlin is a veteran author and sportswriter. He has had about 150 books published since 2006, including A Celebration of Animation: The 100 Greatest Cartoon Characters in Television History (Lyons Press, 2018) with Joe Wos. His Great American Cereal Book (Harry Abrams, 2012) soared to No. 1 in both the Americana and Breakfast Book categories on Amazon.com immediately upon release and remained there for several months while his Powerful Moments in Sports: The Most Significant Sporting Events in American History earned critical acclaim. Gitlin won more than 45 awards as a sports journalist from 1991 to 2002, including first place for general excellence from The Associated Press for his coverage of the Indians-Braves World Series in 1995. AP also selected him as one of the top four feature writers in Ohio.

“The Birth of Rock and Roll: Songs That Defined an Era” will take place in the Stratford Library Lovell Room from 7-8 pm on July 17th.  Doors open at 6:30 pm.  General seating.
