U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

The Associated Press contributed to this post.

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., Wednesday started an online form for “people in Connecticut who have been impacted by Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s” agenda to share what occurred, according to his office.

“Over the past six weeks, the Trump administration and Musk’s DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) have sowed chaos and confusion, engaging in mass layoffs of federal workers, terminating federal contracts, and freezing congressionally appropriated funds for state and local programs…,” Murphy said in a statement Wednesday.

Senator Murphy is collecting stories from people in Connecticut “to raise the alarm about the personal impacts of Trump and Musk’s actions and inform the strategy for his response to the Trump administration.”

“Donald Trump and Elon Musk spend their days finding new ways to make their billionaire friends even richer. It’s regular people in Connecticut who are getting screwed. Musk and his DOGE minions pretend to care about transparency, but they’re trying to hide how they have hurt working people. If you’ve been impacted by the mass layoffs or funding freeze, I want to hear from you — we won’t let them hide from the consequences of their actions,” Murphy, in the statement.

The statement asked that anyone who has been “negatively impacted”, share your story here:

Musk’s efforts to downsize federal agencies could result in the layoffs of tens of thousands of federal workers, whose lost income could potentially reduce their spending, affecting businesses and the economy at large.

The Social Security Administration is preparing to lay off at least 7,000 people from its workforce of 60,000, according to a person familiar with the agency’s plans who is not authorized to speak publicly. The workforce reduction, according to a second person who also spoke on the condition of anonymity, could be as high as 50%.

Hundreds of weather forecasters and other federal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employees on probationary status were fired late last month, lawmakers and weather experts said.

The Murphy statement noted the person’s “identity or the fact that you submitted this form will not be shared with anyone other than Senator Murphy’s staff but details about your story may be used publicly by the Senator to raise awareness of the impact Trump’s actions are having.”
