Stratford Town Councilwoman Kaitlyn Shake announced she has filed to run for State Representative in Stratford’s 120th District in the upcoming November General Election this year.

“Stratford residents need a trusted voice in Hartford to get the job done. In my time inside and out of Stratford Council chambers, I have a proven track record of delivering for our residents, business community, and schools. I look forward to meeting with residents of the 120th district and ensuring their needs are heard and included in the next State Budget,” said Democratic candidate for State Representative Kaitlyn Shake.

Now working on her fifth consecutive Stratford Town Budget, and now as Democratic Party Leader, it is clear that Stratford will need a strong, trusted State Representative who can get the work done and work across the aisle at the State to ensure our schools, businesses, and residents can succeed. Shake has done this throughout her career in public service and as a healthcare professional in Fairfield County.

“When other leaders let us down, Kaitlyn Shake delivered,” said Andrea Corcoran, Former Stratford Board of Education Chair. “Our local education board was in financial crisis, and the Councilwoman worked across the aisle to get us out of the red. What worries taxpayers, people in the education system, and the business community is that Stratford residents can’t afford an annual budget crisis. We need a voice in Hartford to ensure our needs are met here on the ground. Kaitlyn Shake is the one to get it done.”

Kaitlyn Shake is a proud AFSCME CHCA Unit 23 member and nurse with decades of experience caring for the needs of women and children. Outside of her demanding job as a frontline healthcare worker, Shake is serving her third term on the Stratford Town Council. Working across the aisle, Shake accomplished several victories, benefitting her district and all residents of Stratford on public safety, increasing education funding, connecting business owners with state funding during COVID-19, strongly advocating for PFML, and protecting our green spaces.

Now working on her fifth Town Budget as Democratic Party Leader, it is clear that Stratford will need a strong, trusted State Rep. who can get the work done by working collaboratively at the State to ensure our schools, businesses, and residents can succeed.

Shake is also participating in the Citizen’s Election Program (CEP), the state’s public financing program designed to keep big-money interests out of politics. The campaign’s donations are limited to $320 per individual, with a threshold for 150 in-district contributors (Stratford residents) and a total amount raised of $5,800. Once these criteria are met, the campaign will qualify for the one-time grant of $36,500 to run the campaign until Tuesday, November 5th.

Supporters are invited to kick campaign off formally with an event on April 28th at Two Roads Brewing Company in Stratford at 2:00 PM EST in the Barrel Room.
